How do you make a healthy sloppy joes right ? Just replace Tomato Ketchup which is used in this recipe a lot with plain tomato paste and some spices and little sugar.
As tomato ketchup has lot of high fructose corn syrup i don't used it in many of my recipes.I prefer tomato ketchup which has sugar in it rather than corn syrup. And the ones with sugar which i get from indian grocery is little expensive so i try to use it minimal in my cooking.
And i added little spinach to the recipe along with regular bell peppers to add some extra nutrients. And i used turkey lean meat.
My kid loves sloppy joes,he eats a lot at his school but i am not so sure whether its healthy or not as i am sure the recipe is drenched with ketchup and they serve in plain flour buns.So i have to makeover this recipe to be in healthy standard and let him enjoy his fav without me stopping it or feeling guilty in let him feed it.
This is how we can try our best for the crazy sloppy joes loving kids and make sure they are enjoying their favourite but in our healthily way. What you say?

Ingredients:

Ground Turkey - 1/2 lb
Onion small - chopped to 1/2 cup level
Bell peppers - 1/2 cups chopped finely
Spinach - 2 cups chopped finely
Cumin pd - 1 tsp
GArlic pd - 1/2 tsp
Chilly pd - 1/4 tsp
Tomato PAste - 3 tbsp
Raw Sugar or Jaggery - 1 to 2 tsp
Tomato Ketchup - 1 tsp (Add at end to compensate for the original flavor)

Method:

1.In a cold pan add meat and onion and then switch on the flame and keep on stirring for the ultimate crumbelisation.Or you can mix meat with equal cups of water and make it to a creamy texture to add to hot pan for good crumbelisation and avoid lumps.

2.Add salt, cumin pd and chilly pd and mix well and cook for few minutes till the spices are cooked.Cover and cook till meat is completely cooked, add extra water if needed for the meat to cook.
3.Then add chopped bell peppers and  spinach and mix well.
3.Once they are cooked using a potato masher mash it well till all meat and veggies are crumbled uniformly to tiny bit pieces.

4.Once the are crumbled add tomato paste and stir well and cook for few more minutes.
5.Now add brown sugar and garlic powder according to the sweetness you prefer. As we are not drenching this with tomato ketchup sauce which is used in the traditional ,i am adding tomato paste and a tsp of sugar separately and finally add a tsp of ketchup to compensate it.I don't prefer to fully add tomato ketchup it as it has too much high fructose corn syrup and too sugary.I add my own level of sugar and pure tomato paste. You can do as you prefer.
If you don't have tomato paste and if you are ok with ketchup add ketchup to the recipe and leave out tomato paste and sugar.

6.Finally to make up to the original sloppy joes flavor add one tsp of tomato ketcup.
7.Mix well and let it sit few minutes before serving.Serve it with buns or in quesadilla in Tacos.
