Vendaikai Gotsu
Gotsu is an excellent recipe that goes well with ven pongal , rice upma, idly and dosa.Gotsu is made in different way by different people.This is one of the authentic brahmin recipe from tamil nadu, and the main flavour comes from sesame seeds. Your house will smell yummy when this is being made.Usually gotsu can be made with or without dal.If you don't use dal it's little runny if you like that way don't add dal, but if you are like me who expects some thickness in the gravy and in the mean time give some extra protein value to the dish go ahead and add dal.There are various types of gotsu like brinjal gotsu, okra gotsu, yam gotsu, onion gotsu etc.Basically any vegetables which has the tendency to mush up easily can be used to make gotsu.

Ingredients :
Okra / vendaikai - 2 cups chopped
Gotsu Podi - 2 to 3 tbsp
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Coconut oil - 3 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 5
Curry leaf - 1 sprig
Hing - a pinch
Dry red chillies - 1
Green chilli slit - 2
Moong dal - 1/4 cup (optional)
Tamarind paste - 2 to 3 tsp
Salt - as needed
Gotsu Podi - 2 to 3 tbsp
Turmeric - 1/2 tsp
Coconut oil - 3 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds - 5
Curry leaf - 1 sprig
Hing - a pinch
Dry red chillies - 1
Green chilli slit - 2
Moong dal - 1/4 cup (optional)
Tamarind paste - 2 to 3 tsp
Salt - as needed
Method :
1.If using dal, boil dal with 3/4 cup water with little turmeric and hing.
2.In a wide pan add 2 tsp oil and add okra with little turmeric and saute it for some minutes till the raw smell is gone.
4.Then add 2 cups of water along with tamarind paste and salt and let it come to boil and let okra cook well.
5.Once okra is cooked add dal is using at this stage and mix well , add extra water if needed.
6.Then in separate pan make tadka, using oil with mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, hing, red chilly, green chillies, turmeric, curry leaf and add this tadka on top of gotsu and serve hot with ven pongal.
