Iraal Puli / Shrimp in tangy sauce

A Spicy,Tangy,easy Kerala shrimp recipe...we can also try this with fishes....Goes well with plain white rice....


Shrimp / Prawn (deveined)- 2 cups
Tamarind whole (no seeds)- 1 lemon size,soaked in 1/2 cup hotwater
Coriander Powder - 2 tbsp
Chilly Powder - 3 tbsp
salt - 1 tsp
Turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
Oil / Coconut Oil - 1 tsp
Curry Leaf - 1 sprig


1.Grind Tamarind with water ,coriander powder,chilly pd,salt,turmeric pd to a fine paste ...add extra water if needed.
2.Heat a clay pot/ceramic pot(Traditionally fish recipe's are cooked in clay pot,if u don't have one use regular one) pour the grind mixture and let it come to boil.
3.Then add shrimp and once it boils cover and cook for 30 min.
4.Then add curry leaf and top it with oil.
5.Cover and put in lowest temp and let it sit in dum for 1 hr and serve hot with rice.


If you cook shrimp for this long time in curry it will be very soft and tasty too,so do the exact time mentioned in the recipe.
